Hundreds of generations of people living to ripe old ages in Europe, led to this amazing discovery. These populations suffer less cancers, less heart disease and less of all the dread diseases which plague, for arguments sake the Americans. They also suffer from lower stress levels, age slower and are generally speaking a darn sight happier. This has been proven to be because of millennium long histories of daily red wine consumption.

These health benefits from drinking a daily glass of red wine are all due to the way the wine is made. When the red grapes have been harvested after ripening, they are placed in barrels whole, with the skins and pips, and yeast is poured on top to get the fermentation process going. The skin of a grape is rich in polyphenols, resevratrol is probably the most powerful of these. They are produced naturally by the grape to protect them from funguses and other diseases; the way red wine is made concentrates the polyphenols.

Only when the grapes have been properly fermented in barrels, are the skin, pips and twigs removed. It is aged for a certain period in the barrels and then bottled for consumption.

Drinking red wine can stop the development of endothelin-1, a protein which leads to atherosclerosis developing in some people. In one study a reduction of this protein was seen in 68% of the people participating in a red wine study.

Even the FDA concurs that the health benefits of consuming a daily glass of red wine, far outstrip any problems. Its strength lies in the blend of resveratrol and alcohol. However, never fear, for those of you who cannot or don’t want to drink red wine, grape skin extract supplements can be found.
